I. Introduction

Empowerment Technologies covers a wide range of topics that are needed to be discussed and to be taught. This articles are related to the evolution of technology around us. Some topics that will be discussed in my blog are the following (1) ICT Today (2) World Wide Web (3) Social Media and (4) Research and Information Seeking. This blog will let you enter the world of technology and how it influences our day-to-day living.

III. ICT Today

Information and Communications Technology has indeed innovated itself through time. Some of the proofs are the evolutions of the World Wide Web from Web 1.0 to Web 2.0 and the updated applications that have much faster loading time and more uses than previous versions. ICT is the fusion of hardware equipment, precise software, GUI, and effective communications.
Through ICT, users are able to share and gather information from other people through the use of various tools that we use in our day-to-day living such as televisions, radio, cellphone, computers, laptops, and many more. ICT is an element of communication in our lives and it plays an important role in delivering messages to other people from certain users.

IV. World Wide Web

The World Wide Web is an information space where documents and other web resources are identified by URL's interlinked by hypertext links and can be accessed through the Internet. The World Wide Web is the primary tool that billions of people use to interact in the Internet. It was invented by the English Scientist Tim Berners-Lee in 1989.

The World Wide Web has three versions and these are (1) Web 1.0 (2) Web 2.0 and (3) Web 3.0.

  •  Web 1.0
This refers to the first stage in the World Wide Web. It is generally believed to refer to the Web when it was a set of static websites that were not yet providing interactive content. This is also known as a Read-only Web because this type of web is designed only to allow researchers and people to only read documents and not be able to copy, edit or leave a comment.

  • Web 2.0
This refers to the current state of online technology as it compares to the early days of the Web. It is characterized by greater user interactivity and collaboration, more pervasive network connectivity and enhanced communication channels. The term Web 2.0 was coined by Darcy DiNucci but was popularized by Tim O'Reilly.
The Web 2.0 is also known as the Read-and-Write Web because it allows users to read documents on the Internet and at the same time edit or leave a comment on the output. It is also much faster than Web 1.0.

  • Web 3.0
This is defined as the creation of high-quality content and services produced by gifted individuals using Web 2.0 technology as an enabling platform. This is also know and the Semantic Executing Web which will have the same functions of Web 2.0 but much faster and much useful for users on the Internet.

V. Social Media

In today's generation, the social media is commonly termed as the most influential programs that shape the lives of the people who are using it. The social media are computer-mediated tools that allow people, companies and other organizations to create, share, or exchange information, career interests, ideas, and pictures in virtual communities and networks.

The social media is a Web 2.0 Internet-based applications. The different types of social media are forums, microblogging, social networking, social bookmarking, social curation, and wiki's. Some of the most popular social media sites are Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Skype, Yahoo and many more.

Social media has different benefits for people. One benefit is that it allows people who have relatives from other countries to communicate with them and know what their recent status and type of living is. What
ther benefit of using social media is that you can share and relay information to other people and at the same time other people can relay their opinions and thoughts to you. Another benefit of social media is that users can explore and gain information by browsing through the different social media sites. Indeed, social media  has become a part of the everyday lives of most of the people in our world.

VI. Research and Information Seeking

Research and Information seeking uses different sources on the internet to look up information about a certain topic that the users want to learn. It is an ideal application that is made through the innovation of ICT and the World Wide Web.
